Nuno Gil is a Professor of New Infrastructure Development at the Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester. He holds a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and has been affiliated with Manchester since 2002, moving to the Business School in 2004. His research focuses on megaproject governance, design under pluralism, and infrastructure development in the Global South, with a commitment to addressing climate change and socio-economic challenges. Key research interests include Design and Organization Theory, Commons Theory, and the governance of large-scale infrastructure projects. He has co-authored influential books such as Megaproject Organization and Performance: The Myth and Political Reality and edited volumes like Duality by Design: The Global Race to Build Africa's Infrastructure . His work bridges academia and practice, collaborating with organizations like the World Bank, UN Habitat, and the UK Cabinet. Nuno has led the MBS Centre for Infrastructure Development and co-founded the Megaprojects Workshop series, fostering global dialogue between theorists and practitioners. His awards include a Best Paper Award at the Academy of Management conference. Teaching focuses on megaproject leadership, organization design, and infrastructure ecosystems. He actively contributes to public discourse on infrastructure challenges through media outlets like the Financial Times and Forbes. Current projects include authoring Megaprojects: A Theory of Purpose for MIT Press and exploring governance frameworks for collective action in resource-constrained environments. His interdisciplinary approach integrates engineering, management, and social theory to advance sustainable infrastructure solutions.
