Philippa Cohen is an Adjunct Research Fellow and Partner Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies (James Cook University) and Senior Scientist at WorldFish. She holds a PhD in Human Geography from James Cook University and a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology from the University of Tasmania. Her research focuses on equitable governance of small-scale fisheries in developing regions, emphasizing food security, gender equity, and climate resilience across scales. Key areas include policy analysis, community-based co-management, and interdisciplinary approaches to ecological and social outcomes.
Dr. Cohen leads WorldFish's Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries Research Program and collaborates with global initiatives like the CGIAR Research Program on Aquatic Agricultural Systems. She advises on fisheries policy and has pioneered gender-inclusive frameworks for marine resource management in the Pacific and Asia. Notable contributions include groundbreaking work on micronutrient deficiencies in fisheries (Nature 2019) and polycentric governance dynamics (Global Environmental Change 2019).
