Gökhan Kaya is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and the Center for Economic Demography at Lund University. His research focuses on the life chances of children and young people from diverse backgrounds, particularly inequalities in access to social resources affecting education and mental health outcomes. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Lund University, alongside Master's degrees in Development Studies and Sociology, and a Bachelor's in Statistics from Middle East Technical University (METU). His research interests include social stratification, immigrant integration, cultural participation, and public health. He teaches quantitative methods and social stratification at Lund University's sociology department. Key research themes include: Inequalities in educational and mental health outcomes Immigrant youth aspirations and identity formation Cultural participation patterns and policy design Artistic education accessibility for disabled populations His publications analyze regional cultural trends in Skåne, university pathway disparities, and long-term impacts of immigrant background on life opportunities. His doctoral work explored four key determinants of life chances for young Swedes with immigrant origins.
