Ramon Goings

Dr. Ramon Goings is an Associate Professor and Acting Director of the Language, Literacy, and Culture (LLC) doctoral program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He also serves as the LLC Program’s Graduate Program Director. His research focuses on Black male student success PK-PhD, diversifying the teacher workforce, and HBCU contributions to education. Dr. Goings holds a Doctor of Education from Morgan State University, a Master of Science from Post University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lynchburg.

His scholarship appears in journals like Teachers College Record and Gifted Child Quarterly, and has been featured in Education Week and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. Notable awards include the 2019 Imogene Oaks Award for for his2019 and recognition as a 2017 Emerging Scholar. He previously served as Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of African American Males in Education (2017-2020).

Dr. Goings’ research trends emphasize systemic inequities in education, particularly for Black males and teachers of color. His recent work explores Afrofuturism in HBCUs and 'Grow-Your-Own' teacher recruitment strategies. He advises doctoral students through his Done Dissertation® consultancy, focusing on dissertation completion strategies.

Key professional contributions include policy analyses on racial disparities in teaching pathways and advocacy for culturally responsive leadership. His consulting work supports institutions in diversifying educator pipelines while his academic leadership strengthens UMBC’s LLC program.
