Sheneese Thompson is an Associate Professor of Afro-American Studies at Howard University. She holds a B.A. from Howard University, M.A. from Boston University, and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on Black Popular Culture, African American literature, and Afro-Atlantic Religion, particularly Lucumi's cultural impact in the U.S. She is a faculty fellow at Bowie State University’s Center for Research and Mentoring Black Male Students & Teachers and Editor in Chief of Freedom: A Journal of Research in Africana Studies.

Research Interests: Thompson explores intersections of religion, literature, and cultural production in the Black diaspora. Her forthcoming book Oshun, Lemonade, and Intertextuality: Afro-Atlantic Religion in Black Cultural Production (2025) examines syncretic religious practices and their influence on contemporary Black art.
