Zebulon Vance Miletsky is Associate Professor of Africana Studies at Stony Brook University's College of Arts and Sciences, specializing in African-American history, Civil Rights, Black Power movements, and mixed race identity. His research focuses on Northern freedom movements beyond the South, particularly in Boston.
Education includes PhD in African-American Studies with History concentration from University of Massachusetts Amherst. Research examines Boston's civil rights history, school desegregation battles, and the long freedom struggle preceding the busing crisis. Current book project analyzes interracial marriage and racial passing in Massachusetts history.
Publications include the monograph 'Before Busing: A History of Boston's Long Black Freedom Struggle' analyzing civil rights activism preceding school integration battles. Digital scholarship examines gentrification's impact on Boston communities and Black Ivy League activism.
Teaching covers African-American history, civil rights, and Afro-Latin diaspora. Research has been supported by fellowships and grants for Boston civil rights history projects and school desegregation studies.
