Matthew F. Delmont is the Sherman Fairchild Distinguished Professor of History and Associate Dean of International and Interdisciplinary Studies at Dartmouth College. He chairs the Department of African and African American Studies. His research focuses on African American history, civil rights, media, and popular culture. Delmont has authored five books, including Half American (2022), which examines Black contributions to WWII and post-war civil rights struggles, and Why Busing Failed (2016), analyzing media roles in school desegregation resistance.
He holds a B.A. from Harvard and M.A./Ph.D. from Brown University. His honors include the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award and Guggenheim Fellowship. Delmont frequently engages with media outlets like The New York Times and NPR. His work bridges academic research with public scholarship, emphasizing marginalized histories.
