Greta de Jong is a University Foundation Professor in the Department of History at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she has taught since 2002. Her research focuses on African American struggles for justice, particularly examining intersections of race and class, economic rights activism, and post-Civil Rights era challenges.

Her work analyzes how African American communities fought for economic and political rights from Reconstruction through the 21st century, with current research examining school desegregation conflicts. She has authored three major monographs that chart rural Louisiana activism, post-1965 freedom struggles, and the material consequences of civil rights activism.
