Cyndy Wylde is a Professor of Social Work at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. An Anicinape and Atikamekw from the Pikogan community in northeastern Abitibi-Témiscamingue, her work focuses on decolonial social work practices, Indigenous communities' rights, and justice reform. She holds degrees in Criminology, Addiction Studies, Mental Health, and Indigenous Studies. With over 25 years of experience in Correctional Service Canada’s Indigenous Initiatives, she contributed as an expert to the Commission d’enquête sur les relations entre les autochtones (CERP) and advised the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec-Labrador (APNQL).
Her research interests include decolonial social work, Indigenous literatures, ethics in Indigenous research, and addressing systemic issues in Indigenous incarceration. She teaches courses such as ‘Intervention sociale en milieu autochtone’ and ‘Stage de recherche – Intervention,’ emphasizing Indigenous community development and culturally adapted interventions.
Her recent publications analyze Indigenous incarceration systems, youth protection practices, and media representation of Indigenous peoples. She advocates for community-led solutions, cultural safety in social services, and reconciliation efforts in education and policy.
