Jeffrey Wood serves as a Professor in the Department of Music at Austin Peay State University. A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and Stony Brook University with multiple degrees in composition and piano performance, he has received international recognition for his compositions including awards from Broadcast Music, Inc., ASCAP, and the MTNA Distinguished Composer of the Year award. Ph.D. in Composition (SUNY Stony Brook) M.A. in Composition (SUNY Stony Brook) M.M. in Piano Performance (SUNY Stony Brook) B.M. in Piano Performance (Oberlin College Conservatory) His research interests span music and war studies, Judaism/religion-influenced composition, and language-specific musical forms. His work frequently explores World War I themes, as seen in his chamber opera Diaries: A Parable for Voices and the oratorio Lamentationes Ieremiæ Prophetæ , which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Wood's publications include analytical essays on Schönberg's works and chapters in major historical encyclopedias, focusing on tetrachordal structuring and wartime musical narratives. His compositions have been premiered by renowned ensembles like the Philip Jones Brass Quintet and Gateway Chamber Orchestra, which voted his Different Bodies as "Best Classical Première" in 2016. Recipient of two Tennessee Arts Commission Individual Fellowships Finalist in U.S. Information Agency's Artistic Ambassador Program Collaborator with composers Alan Hovhaness, Elizabeth Vercoe, and Frederic Goossen As a performer, Wood specializes in contemporary music and serves as resident keyboard player for the Gateway Chamber Orchestra. He has premiered works by notable composers including Mario Davidovsky and Thea Musgrave.
