Prof. Dr. Tomi Mäkelä is a Professor of Musicology at Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, affiliated with the Faculty of Philosophy II and the Department of Musicology. His academic journey includes pivotal roles at Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg (1996–2008) and the University of Cologne (1995–96), alongside research positions with the German Research Foundation (DFG). Educated at the University of Vienna and Sibelius Academy Helsinki, he holds a Dr. phil. from TU Berlin (1988) and specializes in Nordic composers, film music diegesis, and music education history.
