Professor Ian Montgomery is a faculty member at Ulster University, where he serves as Dean of Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility and Professor of Design. He previously held leadership roles including Director of Brexit & Sustainability, PVC for Global Engagement, and Dean of the Faculty of Art, Design and the Built Environment. PhD, Design, University of Ulster (2000) BA Hons Design, University of Ulster (1988) His research focuses on design theory , knowledge transfer , and design perception , with notable work on sustainability, vernacular architecture, and the social dimensions of Brexit. His recent publications explore the UN Sustainable Development Goals , particularly in education and sustainable cities . Montgomery has received recognition for his teaching excellence, including a Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence 2017 Finalist . He supervises PhD students in design-related fields and collaborates internationally on projects involving ecotourism , green transitions , and cultural studies . Principal Fellow, Higher Education Academy Fellow, Royal Society of Arts Board Member, Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges Warden, Belfast Royal Academy Montgomery actively engages in international academic partnerships with institutions in China, the US, and the Middle East. His laboratory work includes the Green Transition Ecosystem and WEEE Sustainability Exhibition , which emphasize practical applications of design in addressing global challenges.
