Dr. Jeanette Tetrault is a Professor of Medicine (General Medicine) and of Epidemiology (Chronic Diseases) at Yale School of Medicine, with roles as Vice-Chief for Education in General Internal Medicine, Program Director of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship, and Associate Director for the Program in Addiction Medicine. She leads the Addiction Recovery Clinic and is Head of Advisory House at Hamburg House in the Office of Student Affairs. Her clinical practice focuses on patients with addiction and related medical conditions such as HIV and Hepatitis C at the APT Foundation, a multispecialty addiction treatment center affiliated with Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Tetrault holds a BA in Biology from Boston University (1997) and an MD from Boston University School of Medicine (2001), with residency and chief residency training at Yale School of Medicine. She completed an Ambulatory Care Fellowship at the West Haven VA Hospital. Her research emphasizes improving care for individuals with comorbid substance use disorders and chronic diseases, alongside advancing addiction medicine education and curricula. Key areas include opioid use disorder treatment, integrated care models, and reducing stigma through medical education innovations. Her awards include the John P. McGovern Award for Excellence in Medical Education (2023), Macy Foundation Faculty Scholar (2017), and leadership roles such as President of the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and co-edited the 7th edition of ASAM Principles of Addiction Medicine . Dr. Tetrault’s educational contributions include developing web-based curricula to address stigmatizing language in medicine and advancing interprofessional addiction education programs. She collaborates on national initiatives to expand addiction treatment access and improve outcomes for marginalized populations.
