Elanie Rodermond is an Associate Professor at the Department of Criminology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and researcher at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement. Her expertise centers on terrorism, extremism, and political violence, with a focus on radicalization processes, reintegration of extremist offenders, and legal responses to extremism. She holds editorial roles at journals such as Behavioral Sciences of Terrorism and Political Aggression and chairs the European Society of Criminology Working Group on Radicalisation, Extremism, and Terrorism. Education: PhD in Criminology (2018) from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, funded by a Research Talent Grant from NWO. She has supervised multiple PhD students and postdocs, and her work has been recognized with awards including the KNAW Early Career Award (2023) and the Gezina van der Molen prize (2019). Teaching: Coordinates master courses on terrorism and extremism responses, including the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program, which brings together students and incarcerated individuals. She also teaches Developmental and Life-Course Criminology in the BSc program. Grants and Collaborations: Secured over ten grants from institutions like NWO, the Swedish Research Council, and the Dutch Ministry of Justice.
