Florence Glanfield is a Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Secondary Education at the University of Alberta and currently serves as Vice-Provost (Indigenous Programming & Research) and Provost & Vice-President Academic - Admin. Her work bridges Indigenous knowledge systems with mathematics education, emphasizing relational research and equity. She has held leadership roles, including Chair of the Department of Secondary Education (2012–2019), and collaborates internationally on curriculum development and teacher education initiatives in Canada, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Dr. Glanfield’s research focuses on Indigenous perspectives in mathematics education, culturally responsive pedagogy, and teacher identity. Key projects include exploring pathways for Indigenous language speakers to become certified teachers and examining interactions between Indigenous and Western knowledge systems in STEM education. She has contributed to provincial mathematics curriculum development in Alberta and national/international professional organizations such as the Canadian Mathematics Education Study Group and TODOS: Mathematics for ALL. Her publications span over two decades, addressing topics like teacher professional learning, decolonizing methodologies, and equitable mathematics education. Notable awards include the 2014 Iris Carl Leadership and Equity Award and the 2018 Special Award Recognition from the Mathematics Council of Alberta Teachers’ Association. She has led numerous research projects funded by SSHRC and government agencies, focusing on Indigenous education, rural teacher capacity-building, and cross-cultural educational collaborations.
