Sarah Henzi is an Assistant Professor of Indigenous Literatures in the Departments of Indigenous Studies and French at Simon Fraser University (SFU). Her work focuses on Indigenous literatures, popular culture, new media, and translation in both English and French. She previously directed the first graduate program in Indigenous Literatures and Media in Québec at Université de Montréal (2017–2020) and held postdoctoral and visiting roles at UBC and McGill University. Henzi holds a Licence ès Lettres from the Université de Genève, and MA and PhD from Université de Montréal.
Her research emphasizes Indigenous sovereignty, decolonization, and the intersection of oral traditions with digital media. Notable achievements include translating Innu writer An Antane Kapesh’s work into English, which won the 2021 Cole Foundation Award for Translation. She serves on committees like the MLA’s LLC Indigenous Literatures Forum and has editorial roles in journals such as Canadian Literature and Studies in American Indian Literatures.
Henzi’s publications span academic journals and edited volumes, addressing themes like Indigenous language revitalization, settler colonialism in Québec, and graphic narratives. Her work bridges Francophone and Anglophone Indigenous studies, with a focus on marginalized voices and cultural preservation.
