Muhammet Ay is a Lecturer at Alanya Aladdin Keykubat University, Rafet Kayış Faculty of Engineering, Department of Genetics and Bioengineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Istanbul University (2003–2007) and completed postdoctoral research at Iowa State University and University of Rochester. Ph.D.: Molecular Biology and Genetics, Istanbul University (2003–2007) Post-Doctorate: Iowa State University (2011–2017), University of Rochester (2024) Licence: Iowa State University of Science and Technology (2016–2017) His research focuses on Parkinson's disease, specifically targeting PKD1 signaling for neuroprotection, mitochondrial dysfunction, and gene-environment interactions in neurodegeneration. He has published extensively on mitochondrial-targeted therapies and oxidative stress mechanisms. His recent publications (2024–2011) span journals like Frontiers in Neuroscience , Antioxidants & Redox Signaling , and Journal of Neurochemistry , emphasizing mitochondrial biogenesis, neuroinflammation, and neurotoxicity. He has received the Research Excellence Award 2016 (Iowa State University) and the Drug Discovery Toxicology SS Emil A. Pfitzer Student Award 2014 (Society of Toxicology). Muhammet Ay has served as a Board Member at Alanya Aladdin Keykubat University (2018–2022) and was Department Head in 2021. He is actively involved in toxicology research, contributing to projects like TUBITAK 3501 and participating in international conferences such as Society for Neuroscience and Society of Toxicology meetings.
