Professor Khalid Naseem is a Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, and Director of the Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine. He leads research in platelet biology, thrombosis, and cardiometabolic diseases, with a focus on therapeutic interventions for platelet-driven pathologies.
- Previous roles: Lecturer at the University of Bradford, Foundation Chair at Hull-York Medical School, and Professor of Cardiovascular Biology at Leeds (2017–present).
- Current grants include British Heart Foundation (BHF) Accelerator Awards, Programme Grants, and Project Grants.
Research Interests center on:
- Platelet dysfunction in cardiometabolic diseases (acute coronary syndromes, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease).
- Role of lipid stress and CD36 receptor signaling in platelet hyperactivity and thrombosis.
- Development of novel antiplatelet therapeutics targeting conformational proteins and signaling pathways.
Funding from BHF, BBSRC, Heart Research UK, and MRC supports his work. He collaborates internationally on projects including GPVI-fibrinogen interactions and platelet ion channels.
