Dr. Bruce Schultz is a Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Physiology at Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. With a PhD in Pharmacology from Cornell University (1991), he leads a research laboratory investigating epithelial cell physiology and its implications for cancer and cystic fibrosis.
- PhD, Pharmacology, Cornell University, 1991
His work focuses on ion transport and barrier function in epithelial cells lining hollow organs. Key projects examine:
- Physiological mechanisms in male reproductive ducts and their connection to prostate cancer
- Hormone-sensitive mammary epithelium in relation to breast cancer and mastitis
- Pharmacological interventions targeting CFTR channels for cystic fibrosis therapy
- Ion transport modeling in bovine mammary systems
Collaborations include:
- Dr. John Tomich (Biochemistry) - synthetic channel peptides
- Dr. Ronette Gehring - toxin transport in milk
Research supported by:
- National Institutes of Health
- United States Department of Agriculture
- Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
