Keith Tidball is an environmental anthropologist and Senior Extension Associate at Cornell University’s Department of Natural Resources and the Environment. He serves as Assistant Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) and Critical Issue Lead for Natural Resources and the Environment. His work integrates cultural anthropology, disturbance ecology, and environmental psychology to explore pathways into conservation behaviors, particularly in post-disaster and trauma contexts. Tidball’s research focuses on civic ecology practices, disaster resilience, and the intersection of food systems with environmental stewardship. He holds a Ph.D. (2012), M.A. (2000), and B.A. (1998) from Cornell University, The George Washington University, and the University of Kentucky, respectively. Key areas of expertise include: Post-disaster community recovery and resilience Therapeutic outdoor recreation for military veterans and disaster survivors Sustainable food systems and wild game consumption Community-based natural resource management His awards include recognition from the US Department of Interior (2018) and the Philippines Department of Agriculture (2015). Tidball teaches courses on urban ecology, disaster response, and civic ecology, including ALS 5900 “Master of Professional Studies Project Development” and Natural Resources 694 “Trans-disciplinary Approaches to Environmental Challenges” . Current initiatives include leadership in CCE’s Military Families & Veterans programs and the NY Extension Disaster Education Network. His research emphasizes “virtuous cycles” linking environmental stewardship with societal well-being, particularly in vulnerable communities.
