Dr. Kerry Anne Simon serves as an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Bands at Mississippi Valley State University, directing the Marching Band (Mean Green Marching Machine), Symphony Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Woodwind Ensemble while teaching woodwind instruments including clarinet, flute, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon. Her educational background includes: Bachelor of Music Education from Mississippi Valley State University Master of Education from Union University Master of Music Education from Tennessee State University Ph.D. from Florida State University Dr. Simon's research centers on music teacher education with emphasis on retention strategies for educators in low socioeconomic school environments, addressing systemic challenges in under-resourced communities through practical pedagogical frameworks. Prior to her current appointment, she taught in the Memphis City School District and served on the faculty of Coahoma Community College. An accomplished clarinetist who has held principal positions in multiple ensembles, she remains active as a clinician, adjudicator, consultant, and guest conductor across regional music education networks. Her leadership encompasses all major band programs at MVSU, with particular focus on the Mean Green Marching Machine's performance repertoire and educational development of woodwind section members through specialized ensemble training.
