Brian Frederick serves as Professor of Political Science and Interim Chair of Psychology at Bridgewater State University. He holds a BS from MacMurray College, an MA from University of Illinois at Springfield, and PhD from Northern Illinois University. His research focuses on representation in institutions, gender in politics, public opinion, and campaigns and elections. Professor Frederick teaches courses in campaigns and elections, political parties and interest groups, legislative/executive relations, race in politics, gender in politics and public administration, LGBTQ+ politics, undergraduate research methods, and data analysis for public administration. His scholarly work has been published across leading political science journals including Political Research Quarterly , Public Opinion Quarterly , Political Behavior , American Politics Research , and Presidential Studies Quarterly , reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to American political institutions. Professor Frederick has authored significant scholarly contributions including Congressional Representation and Constituents: The Case for Increasing the House of Representatives (Routledge 2010) and coauthored American Presidential Candidate Spouses: The Public's Perspective (Palgrave MacMillan 2018) with Laurel Elder and Barbara Burrell. Based in Dr. Guy C. Clifford House, Room 104, he maintains an active role in both departmental leadership and undergraduate education at Bridgewater State University.
