Neepa Majumdar is an Associate Professor of English and Film and Media Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, serving as Director of Graduate Studies for the Film and Media Studies Program and Program Director of Film and Media Studies within the Department of English. Her work focuses on star studies, film sound, South Asian early cinema, documentary film, and film historiography. She is the author of Wanted Cultured Ladies Only!: Female Stardom and Cinema in India, 1930s to 1950s, honored with an Honorable Mention in the Society for Cinema and Media Studies' Best First Book Award (2010).
Her research has appeared in journals like Canadian Journal of Film Studies and edited volumes such as Soundtrack Available: Essays on Film and Popular Music. Majumdar's scholarship interrogates intersections of gender, colonialism, and cultural identity in cinematic practices. She is actively involved in curricular development for graduate programs and has contributed to redefining frameworks for global film studies through her interdisciplinary approach.
