Rochona Majumdar is Professor and Chair at the Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations, and Professor of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago. She serves on the editorial boards of multiple journals and is affiliated with the Department of History, Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality, and Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory.

- Research spans gender/sexuality, postcolonial theory, Indian cinema, and emotional history
- Current projects include translating Abul Mansur Ahmad's works and editing The Hindoo/Presidency College: Excellence and Exclusion
Her monograph Art Cinema and India's Forgotten Futures (2021) won the Chidananda Dasgupta Memorial Award and received MSA Book Prize Honorable Mention. She has held prestigious fellowships from American Institute for Indian Studies and Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation.
