Hannie Lawlor is an Associate Professor in Modern Spanish Literature and Film at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages. Her research focuses on women’s autobiographical practices across languages and media, particularly in twentieth- and twenty-first-century contexts. She explores comparative approaches to life writing, trauma theory, and socio-historical influences. Current projects emphasize Spanish women’s contributions to international life-writing discussions, analyzing grief memoirs, autofictional film, and postwar narratives. Teaching responsibilities include courses on Hispanic film, modern peninsular literature, and supervision of master’s theses and PhD students. She also co-teaches women’s writing modules and contributes to theoretical debates on autofiction and narrative modes.
Her research interests span comparative literature, film studies, trauma studies, and narrative theory. She has published widely on topics like relational responses to trauma, autofiction, and post-war autobiographical practices. Her work bridges cultural and linguistic boundaries, offering critical insights into global literary practices. She collaborates with institutions like Lady Margaret Hall and Somerville College, fostering interdisciplinary academic engagement.
