Wilfred Wollheim is a Professor in the Natural Resources and the Environment department at the University of New Hampshire. As Co-director of the Water Systems Analysis Group (WSAG), he investigates hydrological, chemical, and biological processes in freshwater systems, emphasizing human impacts on aquatic environments. His research integrates fieldwork, sensor technology, and ecosystem modeling across scales from individual streams to global river networks. Dr. Wollheim teaches courses such as Environmental Modeling , Grant Writing , and Aquatic Ecosystems . His work has been supported by major grants from NSF, EPA, and NASA, focusing on nitrogen cycling, carbon fluxes, and climate change impacts. Recent publications analyze river network drought responses, hyporheic respiration scaling, and nutrient retention mechanisms. Education: Ph.D. in Earth Sciences (University of New Hampshire), M.S. in Zoology/Physiology (University of Wyoming), B.S. in Natural Resources (Cornell) Research Areas: Biogeochemistry, river network dynamics, human-water interactions, environmental sensor development, climate change impacts Recent Grants: NSF Plastic Spiraling in River Networks (2021-2025), NH Charitable Foundation nitrogen mitigation (2025-2026) Collaborations: National Science Foundation, EPA, Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
