Prof. Dr. Thomas Hannus is a Professor and Department Chair of Horticulture and Food Technology at Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf. He leads the Horticulture Working Group (AG Horticulture) and serves as IT Officer. His roles include teaching core courses in commercial management, procurement, agricultural informatics, and supply chain logistics in the Horticulture program, and business administration subjects in Food Technology. His research focuses on data-driven solutions for horticultural industries, including demand forecasting using machine learning (e.g., XGBoost), sustainable regional development strategies (BIOWER project), and digital education innovations. He has led projects like the SMART vhb initiative for compact digital learning modules and conducts annual graduate field analyses. Notable contributions include peer-reviewed work on perishable product prediction models and the impact of external factors like weather and holidays. His presentations address industry trends and SME adaptation strategies.
