Lawrence holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Colorado Boulder (2015) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Carolina Population Center, University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill. Her work has been published in prestigious journals such as Journal of Health and Social Behavior , Social Science & Medicine , and Demography . Her research interests include mortality surveillance, health disparities linked to social and environmental determinants, and the intersection of gender, urbanicity, and cognitive functioning in later life. She has contributed to interdisciplinary studies on opioid-related mortality, risky health lifestyles among youth, and the impact of socioeconomic status on early life mortality. Lawrence’s recent work emphasizes the need for inclusive recruitment strategies in health research, particularly for marginalized populations such as low-income pregnant individuals. Her studies highlight systemic inequities and inform policy interventions to address health disparities in the U.S.
