Mary Babcock serves as Professor and Fiber Area Chair at the University of Hawaii, where she bridges visual art, performance, and social activism through explorations of mending, cultural transformation, and contemplative practices rooted in Eastern philosophy. Her work positions inner landscape development as central to peacebuilding and societal change. Her internationally exhibited work (Korea, Japan, Canada, France, Hungary, Ukraine) and global performances (USA, Japan, Italy, Poland, Philippines) manifest her commitment to using creative practices as tools for illuminating human compassion and cultural dialogue. She actively lectures on connections between fiber arts, performance, and peace justice frameworks. Her recognition includes: Bronze Award in Fiber at Cheongju International Craft Competition: The Breath of Nature Professor Babcock teaches foundational and advanced courses including Woven Structures, Fiber Forms, Installation/Performance, and special topics on sustainable reuse practices, while mentoring students through BFA and MFA seminars.
