Hyeyoung Bang is a Professor at Bowling Green State University's School of Counseling, Higher Education, Leadership and Foundations, with offices in 570 Education Building. Her academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Oklahoma State University (2009), M.Ed. with Honors from the University of New England (2005), M.Ed. in English Education from Pukyong National University (2002), and B.A. in Elementary/Music Education from Busan National University of Education (1990).
Her research explores two primary themes: 1) Wisdom as a Positive Human Function across cultures, examining wisdom's relationship to resilience, virtuous living, contemplative education, and peace traditions; and 2) Education's Social Roles in refugee/minority education, international student experiences, and family-learning dynamics. She employs diverse methodologies including quantitative analysis, qualitative inquiry, mixed methods, and Q methodology.
Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on cross-cultural education (42% of articles), refugee student adaptation (25%), and wisdom development (17%), with frequent comparative studies between Eastern and Western educational contexts. Longitudinal analysis reveals increasing emphasis on trauma-informed pedagogy and contemplative education since 2017.
