Jack Simmons is a Research Fellow at Laurentian University's Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC), affiliated with the Harquail School. A volcanologist with expertise in Precambrian geology and tectonics, he holds a PhD from Monash University (Melbourne, Australia). His current research focuses on constraining Neoarchean sedimentation and volcanic processes within the Superior Craton, combining fieldwork, geochronology, and geophysical data. He has extensive experience in geological mapping and mineral exploration, including postdoctoral work in northern Australia and roles with the Northern Territory Geological Survey. Education: Bachelor of Science (Geology), Monash University Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Volcanology, Monash University Research interests span volcanic processes, crustal dynamics, and the interplay between tectonics and mineral systems. His work integrates field-based studies with geophysical and geochemical analyses to unravel ancient geological events and improve exploration strategies. Key themes include Archean tectonic evolution, orogenic gold systems, and the application of advanced geophysical methods to deep crustal targets. Publications reflect a focus on crustal architecture, metamorphic evolution, and mineral prospectivity, with recent contributions emphasizing the Superior Craton and Australian basins. His collaborative projects, such as the Metal Earth Initiative, highlight interdisciplinary approaches to resource exploration and crustal evolution studies. Labs/Teams: Active member of the Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC), leading projects on Precambrian geology and mineral systems. Collaborates with international groups on volcanic processes and geophysical imaging.
