معرفی
Sean Crowe is a Professor in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC), affiliated with the Faculty of Science. He holds the Canada Research Chair II in Geomicrobiology. His research focuses on understanding Earth's biogeochemical cycles, microbial ecology, and their role in global change. Key areas include nitrogen, iron, sulfur, phosphorus, and carbon cycling in modern and ancient environments, with an emphasis on linking genetic information to geochemical processes.
Education: B.Sc. (2002, UBC), M.Sc. (2003, University of Windsor), Ph.D. (2008, McGill University), followed by postdoctoral research at the Nordic Center for Earth Evolution in Denmark.
Research interests span geobiology, geochemistry, and environmental science. Projects include microbial roles in unconventional energy resources, deep subsurface microbiology, and paleoproxy development. Recent work addresses aquatic deoxygenation, planetary boundaries, and Mars lake microbiology potential.
Key contributions include studies on ferruginous lakes (e.g., Lake Towuti), chromium biogeochemistry, and microbial indicators for mineral exploration. His team explores engineered solutions for contaminant management and bacterial biofilm impacts on medical implants.
- Awards: Canada Research Chair II in Geomicrobiology
- Labs/Teams: Crowe Lab at UBC, collaborations on global metagenomics and climate-driven biogeochemical modeling.
