Guy Nir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). His research focuses on understanding how the genome's three-dimensional structure influences gene expression and cellular function, particularly in the context of disease. Key interests include chromatin organization, super-resolution imaging, and transcriptional regulation in aging and cancer. Nir leads the Nirlab, which develops innovative imaging technologies to study genomic architecture at unprecedented resolution. Research Projects: Structural reorganization at cellular interfaces during disease progression (e.g., senescence and cancer) Role of TADs (Topologically Associating Domains) in gene regulation and structural variations Development of multiplexed imaging techniques for high-resolution genomic analysis Grants: Principal Investigator of CPRIT-funded project (2021–2026): 'Identifying structural and transcriptional signatures of abnormal chromosomes in single cells.' Technology Development: The lab pioneers methods like OligoSTORM and OligoDNA-PAINT for in situ super-resolution imaging, enabling detailed visualization of genomic loci in live cells.
