The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galvestonمعرفی
Guy Nir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). His research focuses on understanding how the genome's three-dimensional structure influences gene expression and cellular function, particularly in the context of disease. Key interests include chromatin organization, super-resolution imaging, and transcriptional regulation in aging and cancer. Nir leads the Nirlab, which develops innovative imaging technologies to study genomic architecture at unprecedented resolution.
Research Projects:
- Structural reorganization at cellular interfaces during disease progression (e.g., senescence and cancer)
- Role of TADs (Topologically Associating Domains) in gene regulation and structural variations
- Development of multiplexed imaging techniques for high-resolution genomic analysis
Grants:
- Principal Investigator of CPRIT-funded project (2021–2026): 'Identifying structural and transcriptional signatures of abnormal chromosomes in single cells.'
Technology Development: The lab pioneers methods like OligoSTORM and OligoDNA-PAINT for in situ super-resolution imaging, enabling detailed visualization of genomic loci in live cells.
