Dr Suvodeep Mazumdar is a Senior Lecturer in Data Analytics at the School of Information, Journalism and Communication, University of Sheffield. He holds degrees including a BTech from West Bengal, MSc and PhD from the University of Sheffield, and a PG Cert from Sheffield Hallam University. His research focuses on reducing barriers in understanding large complex datasets through data and visual analytics, citizen science, and assistive technologies. He collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across academia, industry, and public sectors on projects funded by the EU, Innovate UK, and ESA.
Education: BTech (Computer Science, West Bengal), MSc (Advanced Computer Science, University of Sheffield), PhD (University of Sheffield), PG Cert (Sheffield Hallam University), FHEA (Fellow of the Higher Education Academy).
Research interests include data visualization techniques, citizen science platforms, human-computer interaction, and applications in smart cities, health informatics, and environmental monitoring. His work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing user-centered design and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Publications span over 50 peer-reviewed articles in journals like International Journal of Medical Informatics, Smart Cities, and Computers in Biology and Medicine, focusing on urban planning, healthcare, and environmental analytics. He advises PhD students on topics like AI in libraries, Alzheimer’s diagnosis, and sustainable agriculture.
Teaching includes courses such as Data Visualization, Data Science Foundations, and Decision-Making with Data. Professional activities include organizing tutorials at ISWC and ESWC, and serving on program committees for top conferences like ACM CHI and ISCRAM.
He collaborates with institutions like the Centre for Assistive Technology, Sheffield Hallam University, and international partners in Africa for data science education initiatives.
