Kristoffer Kloch is a PhD Fellow at the Department of Sustainability and Planning, The Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Aalborg University, with dual affiliation to Centre for Blue Governance and AAU BLUE – Marine & Maritime Research. His work bridges maritime technology, environmental sustainability, and transport policy within Denmark's blue economy initiatives. His academic background includes: M.Sc. in Digital Innovation & Management (2019-2021) from IT University of Copenhagen, thesis: From Cartography To Technology: How the digitalisation of the nautical chart has changed the work of navigators at sea B.Sc. in Maritime Transport & Nautical Science (2013-2017) from Svendborg International Maritime Academy, thesis: The legal challenges of unmanned ships Kloch's research investigates transformative technologies in waterborne transport, focusing on autonomous vessel integration, electrification of inland shipping, and regulatory frameworks for green transition. His methodology combines economic modeling with environmental impact assessment, particularly examining modal shifts from road to water transport. Current projects explore digitalization's role in navigation safety and operational efficiency within complex intermodal ecosystems. Analysis of his 2022-2025 publications reveals concentrated expertise in sustainable inland waterway systems, with recurring themes of competitiveness analysis (e.g., Rotterdam-Ghent corridor), lifecycle environmental assessments, and validation of automated transport use cases. His work consistently addresses the tension between technological innovation and practical implementation barriers in European waterway networks. As a core contributor to the EU-funded AEGIS project, Kloch develops validation frameworks for intermodal transport solutions and co-authors strategic roadmaps for automated waterborne systems.
