Tomás Harrington is an Associate Professor in Digitalisation & Operations Management at Norwich Business School, University of East Anglia (effective as Professor of Digital Transformation from August 2025). Previously, he held senior roles at the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) from 2009–2017. His research focuses on industrial systems transformation, digital technologies, and sustainable supply networks. He has secured over £150 million in combined research funding, including leadership roles in major projects like the £10M CMAC Future Manufacturing Hub and £7.8M TIGR2ESS initiative.
Education: PhD (Chemistry) and MBA (Distinction) from the University of Cambridge, with a Chartered Management Institute Award. Industry experience includes roles at Intel Corporation and Littelfuse Inc., where he led projects yielding $52M cost savings. He co-developed the MON suite of management tools, contributing to Cambridge’s REF 2014 impact case studies. He serves as Associate Editor for the International Journal of Healthcare Technology and Management and International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management.
Key research areas include digital supply networks, circular economy systems, and multi-organisational collaboration. His work addresses sustainability challenges through technology integration and network design innovations. Recent collaborations span global supply chain resilience, gender equity in agriculture, and precision farming in emerging economies.
Notable achievements include the 2025 UEA Innovation and Impact Award for Knowledge Exchange. He actively advises on global challenges such as India’s food security via the TIGR2ESS project and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to zero hunger and sustainable cities.
