Dr Jack Parkin is an Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Culture and Society (Western Sydney University), specializing in blockchain technology, cryptocurrency governance, and algorithmic decentralization. He holds a PhD in Political Economy (2018) from Western Sydney University, an MSc in Sustainable Development (2012) from the University of Exeter, and a BA in Geography (2011) also from Exeter. His research critically examines technical infrastructures of cryptocurrencies, venture capital dynamics, and the socio-technical networks shaping blockchain ecosystems. His in-press book Money/code/space: Bitcoin, blockchain, and algorithmic decentralisation (Oxford UP) explores the interplay between code, financial systems, and spatial economies. He has also published in Economy and Society on Bitcoin's governance structures. As Director at consultancy firm Eskin Taylor, he advises on distributed ledger technologies. His work bridges political economy theory with empirical studies conducted across Silicon Valley, New York City, and London through ethnographic fieldwork.
