Dr May Hen is a fiscal sociologist and socio-legal researcher based at the Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge, where she holds a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Research Fellowship and Isaac Newton Trust Research Fellowship (2023-2026). Her work intersects Tax, Blockchain, and the Digital Economy, with a focus on offshore financial centres and decentralised finance (DeFi).

Hen’s research explores the socio-technical dynamics of global tax systems and digital economies. Her current project, Taxing Ghosts: Transnational Residency Issues in the Digital Economy, examines how tech firms navigate regulatory systems. She also leads a decade-long longitudinal study on gender dynamics in offshore finance.
Her work spans ethnographic fieldwork in the Cayman Islands, blockchain analysis, and policy-oriented studies in higher education. Hen has previously worked at McGill University, LSE, and Microsoft Research, blending interdisciplinary methods to study fiscal systems.
