Kyle Willmott is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Simon Fraser University (SFU) and an Associate Member in the School of Public Policy. He is a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nation. His research focuses on political and economic sociology, particularly Indigenous-settler relations, settler colonialism, taxation, and fiscalized racism. He previously taught at the University of Alberta and held a visiting position at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
Education: PhD in Sociology (Simon Fraser University), MA in Public Policy (Toronto Metropolitan University), and BA in Sociology & Geography (University of Toronto).
Research Interests: His work examines how fiscal politics, law, and policy perpetuate colonial inequalities. Key areas include the intersection of taxation and settler colonialism, the construction of policy expertise on Indigenous nations, and right-wing political mobilization in settler states.

- SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2021-2024): 'Making Indigenous Policy in Canadian Think Tanks'
- Killam Cornerstone Operating Grant (2020): 'The Making of Expertise on Indigeneity in Canadian Think Tanks'
Advising: Supervised graduate students Courtney Vance (MA, 2023) and Sarah Law (MA, 2024), both focusing on settler colonialism and fiscal politics.
Publications: Key works include studies on fiscal surveillance, tax as white property, and anti-Indigenous policy advocacy. His work appears in Law & Society Review, Economy & Society, and Surveillance & Society.
