Mollie Blackburn is a Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at The Ohio State University’s College of Education and Human Ecology. Her research focuses on literacy, language, and social change, particularly as they intersect with LGBTQ+ youth and teacher advocacy. She holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, an MEd from the University of Georgia, and a BA from the University of Richmond. Her work emphasizes queer pedagogy, LGBTQ-themed literature in schools, and the role of literacy in fostering social justice. Current projects include improving school environments for LGBTQ+ communities and analyzing the impact of queer literature in high school settings. Chinn Book Award (for Acting Out! ) Teaching & Grants: Blackburn teaches courses such as 7431/7432 Ethnography of Literacy and Language . Her grants and collaborations focus on LGBTQ+ inclusion, with projects like a long-term teacher inquiry initiative in central Ohio schools. She co-authored Interrupting Hate and edited Acting Out! , both landmark works in queer education.
