Professor Chris Bojke serves as Professor of Health Economics and Head of the Academic Unit of Health Economics within the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds' Faculty of Medicine and Health. Previously, he held senior research positions at the University of York's Centre for Health Economics, the National Foundation for Educational Research, and directed the health technology assessment consultancy Pharmerit Ltd.
His academic credentials include a PhD in Economics from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (2010), an MSc in Statistics from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (1995), and a BA (Hons) 1st Class in Economics from Nottingham Trent University (1994).
Bojke specializes in advancing health technology assessment through econometric techniques for non-standard evaluations, particularly focusing on patient heterogeneity and observational data analysis using Hospital Episodes Statistics (HES). His research spans wound care economics, mental health staffing cost-effectiveness, maternity services optimization, and patient safety interventions, employing quasi-experimental methods like controlled interrupted time series for health policy decisions.
He currently supervises three PhD candidates: Davide Trebaldi (type 2 diabetes management), Claire Mills (tracheostomy communication), and Rachael Jablonski (digital facial prosthetics). Active in health policy, Bojke serves on the NICE Public Health Advisory Committee, NIHR HS&DR Funding Committee, and EU Horizon 2020 committee, while leading the #StaffedWards project investigating mental health ward staffing and patient safety.
