Dr. Niloy Bhadra holds dual roles as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Case School of Engineering. He is also a Staff Scientist at the MetroHealth System’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and an Investigator at the Cleveland FES Center. His expertise bridges Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Bhadra’s research focuses on neuroprosthetics and electrical nerve block technologies for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) and stroke. His work includes developing kiloHertz frequency alternating current (KHFAC) and direct current (DC) nerve block methods to address spasticity, pain, and autonomic dysfunctions. He has pioneered computational models and experimental studies in animal models, leading to over 40 publications and 24 patents in this field.
His research projects include:
- Restoring arm and hand movement post-SCI/stroke
- Electrical nerve block for pain management
- Development of advanced neuroprosthetic systems
Professional affiliations include IEEE (Senior Member since 2008) and leadership roles in neurotechnology innovation. His work emphasizes translational research with clinical applications in rehabilitation engineering.
