Professor Philip Cowley is a Professor of Politics at Queen Mary University of London, joining in 2016 after roles at the University of Nottingham and Hull. His expertise spans British political elites, elections, parliamentary studies, and representation. Educated at Brunel (BSc) and Hull (MA), Cowley has held leadership roles in academic groups like the PSA’s Elections, Public Opinion and Parties specialist group. He is a prolific author, with notable works including Revolts and Rebellions (awarded the PSA’s WJM Mackenzie Prize) and co-edited volumes on British politics. His research has been funded by the ESRC, Leverhulme Trust, and Nuffield Foundation. Prof. Cowley’s media contributions include regular columns for House magazine and appearances on BBC radio/TV. His teaching focuses on parliamentary studies, British politics, and political internships. Awards include the Richard Rose Prize and PSA’s Innovation in Teaching Award (2013).
