Dr. Russell Solomon is a Lecturer in the Department of Criminology and Justice Studies at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies (GUSS). He focuses on teaching and research in areas such as human rights, international law, and socio-legal studies, with particular emphasis on Australia's engagement with global human rights frameworks and the implications of Brexit on the European Union and UK governance. His work explores institutional avoidance of economic and social rights, rights-based policymaking, and the role of NGOs in promoting human rights agendas.
Russell's research spans post-Brexit legal and political dynamics, EU juridification, and the domestic translation of international rights into Australian policy. He has authored a book analyzing Australia's approach to economic and social rights and contributes to projects examining the socio-legal dimensions of human rights legislation, including Victoria's Charter of Rights. He is actively involved in professional networks such as the Human Rights Network (Federation of Community Legal Centres Inc.) and the International Political Science Association.
