Dr. Xavier Symons is a prominent bioethicist serving as Director of the Plunkett Centre for Ethics at Australian Catholic University (ACU) and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA). He holds a PhD in Philosophy from ACU, complemented by a BA Advanced Hons and MA (Research) in Philosophy from the University of Sydney. His prior appointments include Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University's Human Flourishing Program and residency at Georgetown University's Kennedy Institute of Ethics. Symons' research spans foundational and applied bioethics, with emphasis on: Ethical frameworks for resource allocation in healthcare systems Conscientious objection debates in clinical practice Moral dimensions of end-of-life care and palliative interventions Pandemic ethics and public health policy formulation Philosophical examinations of wellbeing and clinical decision-making His publications demonstrate consistent focus on healthcare justice, moral agency in medicine, and phenomenological analyses of patient experiences.
