James Paul Sain is a Professor of Music at the University of Florida, where he teaches composition, music theory, and electroacoustic music. He serves as Composition, Theory, and Technology Co-Chair, Director of Electroacoustic Music, and founded the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival (operating for 17 years). His work includes pioneering interdisciplinary projects such as the MIDI Movement Module (M3), which was nominated for a 1998 technological innovation award. Sain has held residencies at institutions worldwide, including the Swedish Royal Academy of Music and the Institute for Electroacoustic Music in Sweden (EMS). He curated international festivals in Germany, Argentina, and South Korea, and his compositions have been featured globally in venues like Nuit Bleue (France) and the Nong Festival (South Korea). Awards include the 2005 San Diego State University Alumnus of the Year and editorial recognition for his technological contributions.
