Michael Sfakianakis serves as Professor of Informatics and Statistics Applications in Business Administration at the Department of Business Organization and Administration of the University of Piraeus, where he also holds the position of Rector. Previously, he served as Dean of the School of Economics, Business and International Studies (2017-present) and President of the Department of Organization and Administration (2013-2017). His academic foundation includes a first degree from the Mathematics Department of the University of Athens, a Master's degree in Informatics and Operations Research, and a PhD in Applied Quantitative Methods. Professor Sfakianakis has established himself as a prominent figure in both academic and public administration spheres. His extensive service includes roles such as Chairman of the Central Supervisory Board of the General Commercial Registry (2011-2016), President of the Tourism Observatory (2014-present), and Deputy President of the Health Quality Assurance Organization (2020-present). He has also been honored with appointments to prestigious national and international committees including the European Advisory Committee for Economic and Social Issues and the OECD Coordination Committee for the Global Project on Measuring the Progress of Societies. His research portfolio demonstrates remarkable interdisciplinary breadth, spanning business process automation, statistical applications in business contexts, tourism economics, and health informatics. The publication record reveals a consistent pattern of high-quality work across diverse domains, with articles appearing in top journals including IEEE Transactions on Reliability, Journal of Applied Statistics, American Journal of Gastroenterology, and European Journal of Clinical Investigation. As an educator, Professor Sfakianakis has taught 30 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate courses across multiple institutions including the University of Athens, Athens University of Economics and Business, and the University of Piraeus.
