Levin Joe Klages

Levin Joe Klages is a Consultant Lecturer and PhD student at Bielefeld University, holding dual affiliations with the OWL Medical Faculty's Anatomy and Cell Biology Group and the Center for Biotechnology's Microbial Genomics and Biotechnology Group.

His academic background includes a Master's degree in Genome Based Systems Biology from Bielefeld University (2018-2021), with specialization in Genetics, Nanopore Sequencing, omics-data analysis, and Bioinformatics. His Master's thesis focused on Nanopore sequencing of rolling-circle amplified DNA for bacterial taxonomic classification and virus identification.

Mr. Klages' research spans bioinformatics and genomic technologies with emphasis on bacterial taxonomy, antibiotic resistance analysis, and viral evolution. His work uniquely bridges wet-lab techniques with computational analysis, particularly utilizing nanopore sequencing for clinical applications. His research interests include Synthetic Biology applications and biosafety protocols development.

His publication record demonstrates versatility across biological disciplines, with recent work on photosynthesis regulation in microalgae and innovative SARS-CoV-2 variant detection methods. His laboratory work integrates resources from both the Microbial Genomics and Biotechnology Group at CeBiTec and the Anatomy and Cell Biology Group at the OWL Medical Faculty.
