Paolo Sansò is an Associate Professor in the GEO-04 Physical Geography and Geomorphology scientific sector at the University of Salento, where he has been employed since November 1, 2002. He is affiliated with the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Technologies, located at the Ecotekne Center in Lecce-Monteroni. Previously, he worked at the Department of Materials Science from 2000 to 2012, and began his academic career at the University of Bari in 1990. His research primarily focuses on geomorphology and environmental geology, with particular emphasis on reconstructing the evolution of the Apulian coastal landscape in response to sea level changes, climate variations, and human activity during the Holocene. He has conducted extensive studies on coastal hazards including erosion, historical sea surges, landslides, and flooding related to karst landscape evolution. His work also includes identifying and valorizing significant geological interest sites (geosites) in southern Puglia and applying GIS technology to geological-environmental issues. Analysis of his recent publications reveals a consistent research trajectory centered on coastal geomorphology, with particular focus on tsunami impacts, extreme wave events, and the vulnerability of the Apulian coast. His work often combines field observations with advanced analytical methods, demonstrating a strong interdisciplinary approach that bridges geology, environmental science, and archaeology. Professor Sansò teaches in both the undergraduate program in Environmental Sciences and Technologies and the master's program in Environmental Sciences at the University of Salento. His office is located on the ground floor of the Ecotekne Center Pal. M - SP 6, Lecce - Monteroni, and he can be reached at +39 0832 29 7082 or via email at paolo.sanso@unisalento.it.
